Smoked Mackerel Pâté

4 smoked mackerel fillets, skinned
225g/8oz/1 cup cream cheese
1-2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
Juice of 1 lemon
30ml/2 tbsp chopped fresh chervil, parsley or chives
15ml/1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and cayenne pepper
Chopped fresh chives, to garnish


Serves: 6


1. Break up the mackerel, discarding the skin and bones, and place in a food processor. Add the cream cheese, garlic, lemon juice and chervil, parsley or chives.

2. Process the ingredients until combined but with a slightly coarse texture, not completely smooth.

3. Add the Worcestershire sauce, salt and cayenne pepper to taste. Process to mix, then spoon the pâté into a dish, cover with clear film (plastic wrap) and chill for at least 30 minutes.

4. Sprinkle with chopped chives to garnish and serve.
